A Very Long Time Ago…
My first creative effort was, of all things, decorating cakes! I loved it, actually too much, especially tasting the delicious batter and buttercream off of the spoon. I had alot of fun decorating cakes for friends and family but it wasn’t long after that first plunge into the creatives that I began my journey as an artist. My developing passion for painting put my interest in cake decorating on the back burner, at least for a while.
Details Matter
As an artist, I’ve been closely involved in the wedding industry for years, floral design, styling, etc. One thing I’ve learned is whether planning a small, intimate wedding, or the grandest wedding you can dream of, it’s the details that matter. The details make your event memorable, unique and fun. The details set your event apart from all of the others and allows your personality to shine.
Of the many weddings and celebrations I have either decorated or witnessed over the years, it has always been mind-boggling to me that a beautiful cake, which is usually the feature, would be perched on, of all things, a foil-covered board! When I did see a cake “properly perched”, it was usually on basically, the same style, age old, pressed silver stand that everyone seems to have and is much to banal for my taste.
My Commitment
Three years ago, when styling a display booth for Wedding Cakes Across America, promoting their then partnership with David’s Bridal, I created my first cake stand. We had a custom designed cake featured as part of the program. Wanting to display the cake on something other than the ordinary pressed silver cake stand, I chose to craft a stand out of fresh florals and natural materials, it was a hit! Once home after that weekend in Las Vegas, visions of cake stands were buzzing around in my head. Those visions became my company, Fabulous Wedding Cake Stands.
I consider it an honor to contribute unique, beautiful and useful items that will be used for the special days in one’s life. Planning a wedding, or any celebration for that matter, is hard work but it’s also fun! It’s an experience that brings friends and families together to celebrate. It truly makes me happy to be a part of such a special moment! My commitment is to keep fresh and innovative designs coming so there are even more presentation choices for the celebrations of your life!
Each Fabulous Cake Stands is a true work of art designed to complement and showcase the culinary centerpiece of your most special day.
About Me~Cindy Mathis Lewis
Multi-skilled as an artist, my experience spans over thirty years. I have enjoyed my diverse roles as a painter, muralist, decorative artist, cake designer, floral designer, and graphic artist. There is beauty in the world all around, from the most impressive mountain to the smallest leaf. My inspiration often originates from tiniest details in life. An avid Francophone, I love to travel as often as possible to France, the country of my ancestors, for self-study and exploration and also to Costa Rica.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Atelier BIS, a restoration studio in Paris, and have executed decorative artwork in the Ecole Musique Normal de Paris, as well as, other various projects in La Belle France. I was born, raised and now live in one of my favorite cities, New Orleans, a city that provides all the inspiration an artist could imagine!
